NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma is one step closer to the Women’s College World Series, winning Game 1 of its Super Regional series against Central Florida 8-0 in five innings.
OU’s offense paid tribute to a blistering hot day at Marita Hynes Field with a fiery offense that produced the program’s 38th run-rule victory of the season.
The Sooners did all of their damage in the first three frames, including Jocelyn Alo blasting her 116th career home run far beyond the center field wall.
Jayda Coleman, who’s asserted herself as the Sooners’ leadoff hitter this postseason, was key to the Sooners’ success, scoring on a throwing error in the bottom of the first and smacking a two-run double to left center.
Hope Trautwein received the Game 1 start. The first-year Sooner, who transferred from North Texas over the offseason, tossed a no-hitter, striking out two and walking three. She blanked UCF for its first shutout loss since an April 3 defeat to Virginia Tech.
The Sooners and Knights will play Game 2 at 1 p.m. Saturday. If OU prevails, it will punch its ticket to the Women’s College World Series and keep its title defense alive.
